That is, uh, some crossover, Tumblr.
fandom secret, I haven’t seen Firefly and only saw Serenity once and don’t remember much of it, but this song is my fandom battle hymn because no matter how much something you love gets screwed over, they can never retcon your heart. you still watched the show (or the seasons that were good), you still read the comics (or the series that were good). (equally important edit…s: and there can be bad people in your fandom, but that doesn’t make all of you bad people. and it’s not about refusal to criticize or refusal to change, it’s about how you can still criticize or look back and still be a fan)
so I will always love my back issues where my legacy heroes and their growth and their relationships with those before them and around them still exist as I know them, and nothing DC does can ever truly take that away, not Jaime Reyes’ close relationship with his family and friends and Khaji Da and with the people who knew and loved the Blue Beetles before him, not Booster Gold growing as a person from meeting friends and losing friends and meeting family he hasn’t met yet, not Amanda Waller being a fearless fat HBIC, not Oracle kicking ass at crimefighting with her mind (and eskrima) instead of her legs, not Renee Montoya or Crispus Allen
and that’s why I don’t worry about continuity anymore, and I’ll just take the new Star Wars movies as they come, because my favorite Star Wars character will always be Grand Admiral Gilad Pellaeon, Supreme Commander of the Imperial Remnant who signed a treaty for peace with the New Republic and abolished slavery within the Empire and commanded a battle from a fuckin’ bacta tank and was killed for opposing the reign of a Sith and charmed people and learned from things and gardened and slept around and lost a son and kept losing commanders and the Empire changed around him until he was the one making the changes
even if not all of those things happened or none of them did or the characters never happened (and of course, they never really did)
it all happened to me, once upon a time
